The story of FUSE FM Ballymoney

FUSE FM Ballymoney is the local Ulster-Scots radio station for north Antrim.  Since our inception, and first broadcast in December 2007, we have continued to grow and evolve, with more experience gained by our team during the RSL broadcasts.

Back in 2007, a group of locals from Ballymoney decided to broadcast a community radio station over a two-week period out of a room in the local Orange Hall. They used the call sign FUSE FM (For Ulster-Scots Enthusiasts).  For the first few years, FUSE FM operated from above shops and in community buildings.  In 2009, with the formation of the Ullans Speakers Association and the opening of The Ullans Centre,  FUSE FM had a permanent base and purpose-built studio for the first time.   Success and popularity led the Ullans Speakers Association, in early 2012,  to apply to OFCOM for a full-time community radio licence.

OFCOM awarded FUSE FM Ballymoney a community radio license in May 2013 (a first for any Ulster-Scots station).  As a result of the full-time licence award, a new location in the heart of Ballymoney with a larger studio was required and  in late 2013 the Ullans Speakers Association moved  The Ullans Centre and FUSE FM Ballymoney to new premises.

After five very successful years, FUSE FM Ballymoney  again had outgrown its studio and moved a short distance to new premises where two new and upgraded studios were build thanks in part to funding from Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council as part of the Peace IV shared space project. Along with the new studios, The Ullans Speakers Association also rebranded The Ullans Centre to The FUSE Centre, an Ulster-Scots Community Hub, reflecting our wider scope within the Ulster-Scots community.

All our presenters are volunteers, and we are indebted to them for the time commitments they give to help entertain our listeners.

FUSE FM Ballymoney is your local station, covering the language, culture, heritage and every day life of the Ulster-Scots people, and we aim to give the community a voice on issues which others may miss.

We thank every one of you who listen and are delighted when you contact us, so please send us your various requests via our text message or email service and become part of the FUSE FM Ballymoney family.
